Call for New UNI Base Program - Iowa Space Grant Consortium
Call will open in January and be due on March 3, 2025 - selected project will begin July 1, 2025.
The Office of Research & Sponsored Programs will be soliciting proposals from the campus community for the new UNI Base Program. The purpose of the BASE Program is to stimulate faculty and undergraduate research on campus and build/create partnerships with NASA in any area that falls within NASA's Science Mission Directorate (SMD).
What is included in the SMD: all science connected to learning about objects and phenomena in space and all science connected to learning about objects and phenomena on Earth (especially if insight can be gained from space). What is not included in the SMD: development, prototyping, and testing new flight/space transport and communication; research related to humans surviving and thriving in space.
The Base program will provide a minimum of $40,000/year for 4 years with a possibility of supplementary funds in years 2-4. Projects are expected to engage UNI undergraduates in the research process. Projects that are interdisciplinary, involve additional ISGC affiliates, include outreach to K12, and have a high chance of sustaining beyond the 4 years of Base Program funding will receive extra consideration. A 1:1 non-federal match is required; as F&A is not allowed, the unclaimed F&A may be counted toward the required match. Only US citizens may directly receive NASA funds.
STEM Support Services will offer a STEM Chat to discuss Base Program proposal ideas on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 from 12-1 pm at a location TBD. Please feel free to set up an appointment to discuss ideas with STEM Coordinator Marcy Seavey, marcene.seavey@uni.edu, or with RSP, rsp@uni.edu, if this time does not work for you.
