Proposal Routing and Approval - Cayuse Sponsored Projects

The Principal Investigator or Project Director of a sponsored project assumes significant financial and regulatory risk management responsibilities on behalf of the university. Thus prior approval of all proposals for external funding is required. See the Submission Approval page for more details.

Proposal Form must be created in Cayuse Sponsored Projects prior to each grant or contract proposal submission. The Proposal Form gathers key information about the project and is routed for required certifications (from key personnel) and approvals (from RSP, department heads and deans of key personnel, and approvers for various compliance considerations).

You will be prompted to upload the following documents to the Proposal Form:

  • Request for Proposals / Grant Guidelines
  • Project Abstract or Scope of Work
  • Budget
  • Budget Justification

How to Complete a Proposal Form

1. Log in to Cayuse using your CatID

2. In the upper right corner, go to the "Products" dropdown and select "Sponsored Projects"

3. In the upper right corner, click on "Start New Proposal"

4. Click the first radio button, "This proposal is not related to any existing proposals or awards," unless directed otherwise by RSP staff

5. Complete the sections of the Proposal Form; contact RSP Preaward staff with any questions

6. When the form is complete, click "Route for Review" (blue button on the upper left)

7. All key personnel will receive an email requiring that they certify the proposal form before it can move on to further review. Please read the certification text carefully and contact RSP Preaward staff with any questions or concerns.

An existing project needs a new Proposal Form if:

  • The original project period is extended beyond the initial project period, and additional funding and/or a new scope of work is awarded that was not previously anticipated

An existing project does not need a new Proposal Form if:

  • It was proposed/submitted as a multi-year project and the next anticipated funding increment is being awarded
  • The project period is extended by the sponsor at the request of UNI
  • Additional funds are provided by the sponsor, but there is no change in scope of work
