Research Security
To address growing concerns around research security, U.S. federal regulations now require individuals involved in certain federally funded research programs to complete research security training. Research security training is designed to protect against outside interference and exploitation at research institutions.
UNI's Research Security Program applies to covered individuals who are submitting a proposal to certain federal agencies, including:
- National Science Foundation
- Department of Energy
Covered individuals must complete research security training within 12 months prior to proposal submission.
Content areas for training include cybersecurity, international collaborations, and risk management. Training is offered through the CITI program, and four modules are provided. Covered individuals may meet the training requirement by taking the "Research Security Training Combined" module, which takes approximately one hour.
